The midfielder has been one of the bright sparks for Louis van Gaal during a difficult season in which United have fallen behind rivals Manchester City and Arsenal as well as Leicester.
That feeling of being cut adrift from the title chasers intensified last week after the manger was hounded down the tunnel following defeat by Southampton.

It was the most ferocious booing Van Gaal has encountered, under pressure to not only win but win with style.

‘Our first feeling was disappointment after our performance and losing the game,’ he said.

‘It was hard to take and we understand the frustration of everyone – we feel it as well.
‘We want to bounce back and win now, though. We’ve had a bit of time to reflect on that last league game and now it’s up to us to improve.
'We want to win in front of our fans because they deserve the best and they are used to the best. We want to give them that.’
United were much-improved as they beat Championship Derby County on Friday night but Stoke City will be a different animal on Tuesday night.

‘Every game is a big game for this football club, especially in our position now,’ he added. ‘We need to look at each game as a cup final, and to win every one until the end of the season.
‘We can see that the gap is getting a bit bigger in the table but it [the title] is not impossible.
'For the second part of the season we want to improve our game and win as many matches as we can to be a contender for the title and be in the Champions League, because that’s very important to this club.
